The Top 7 Reasons Why People Sew

Last week we asked you "why do you sew your own clothes?". Today we will be sharing some of your answers. Here are the top 7 reasons why people sew!

(Baseball Skirt, Bronte Knit Top, Rockstar Bag)

I am sure you have heard these questions over and over again from surprised faces: "You sew?!", "You made that?!" and "Why do you sew?".

Nowadays sewing is not just about saving money anymore. Not to most people.

So, why do you sew? Here's what we heard from you.

Reason #1. Unique, one-of-a-kind outfits.

"I love that it is unique and can't be replicated especially when I upcycle or use vintage linen and fabric." Brooke, Australia

" kids get one of a kind outfits that suit their tastes and match their likes." Genevieve, USA

"I also sew so that the clothing items I create are unique and not just like everyone else's out there." Muse of the Morning, USA

Reason #2. It's relaxing.

"I sew because (...) it gives me something to do when I would otherwise be dragged down by day-to-day tasks." Meriel (create3.5), USA

"I sew to keep my mind focused and to relax. Sewing keeps my mind on the day and not daily worries. It helped be survive my husband's chemo sessions in the past. Sewing is my passion." Anne (sofilantjes), The Netherlands

Reason #3. A creative outlet.

"I sew as an outlet for stress relief and for a creative outlet." Genevieve, USA

"...a creative outlet. My job is rather stressful and full of pressure, my sewing time is a great release." Cassy, USA

Reason #4. Sense of community.

"...the community, sharing that excitement with everyone else who is just as passionate and "gets it" when something turns out truly amazing or heartrendingly awful. Because store bought comes with none of that..." Shelly, United States

Reason #5. Brain workout.

"...learning a new skill or technique that all of a sudden makes you realize that you don't know how you ever lived without it." Shelly, Unite States

Reason #6. Oh, the sweet memories...

"I sew because it reminds me of the time I spent with my mom and grandma, who taught me." Genie, USA

Reason #7. Better fitting clothes.

"I sew because I love to tailor fit clothing to actually fit my children and because I love to make them one-of-a-kind outfits." Karly, USA

"I sew because my children are very tall and slender as is my husband. He is 6'10" and it is almost impossible to find anything RTW that fits him." Eleri, USA

Personally I can relate with all of these. How about you?
