Hello fellow sewists! Today I'm shining the spotlight on the Persimmon Dress & Top pattern available in the UpCraft Club Catalog. I love this pattern. It is a quick sew with plenty of style. I originally made this dress as part of the UpCraft Club STYLO Magazine Photo Challenge. Just like my Charlie Dress entry (blogged about here), I chose a fabric with eye popping color and pattern to go along with the "High Fructose" contest theme. This fabric is a Keepsake Calico from JoAnn Fabrics called "Gladstone Summer" available here.
- Designed by Haley of Mouse House Creations for Willow & Co.
- Sizes 6 months - 12 years
- Two length options: dress or top
- Inverted pleating on bodice
- Fully lined
- Bias tape shoulder ties
- Other optional features: side ruffles and flap pockets
One of my favorite features is the feminine bows on the shoulders. Not only are they delicate and pretty, they are also very easy to sew. In my opinion, adding bias tape to finish the armscye and shoulder is a much easier task than adding sleeves! Also, the tied bows mean that the shoulder length is adjustable. Bonus!
The inverted pleats add interesting detail. They also allow for a fitted bodice with a full body. This style should work on a wide variety of body types.
To style our Persimmon for summer, my daughter added her favorite pair of sandals and sun hat or headband. The dress makes enough of a statement that you don't need much as far as accessories.
Six going on sixteen. When did she grow up so much??? ;)
This dress is great for layering and can therefore work in many seasons. For fall, we will add leggings, boots and a jean jacket. For winter, maybe jeans on the bottom and a long sleeve tee underneath the dress.
Can you tell she loves her Persimmon? My daughter gets compliments every time she wears it!
