Sewing Pattern Review: Moto Jacket by Jennuine Design

Hi all! Michelle from Falafel and the Bee back again to share what I made for my youngest daughter, this time.

The Moto Jacket!
Pattern details:
  • Sizes 2T through 12 years
  • Asymmetrical zip, shawl collar, welt pockets
  • Normally has knit sleeves, but I sewed mine up with vegan leather
  • Basically full of awesome.
What I changed:
  • I made this one completely out of vegan leather (pleather) instead of using knit
  • I also top stitched around the sleeves to give it more of a motorcycle jacket feel. If you are using pleather, I don't recommend doing this. It was beyond nerve-wracking because pleather is not forgiving. At all. You basically get one shot. I went super slowly. Sticking to the pattern would be a good thing in this case.

I did line it with flannel which makes it a perfect Fall jacket. The zip was the one intimidating thing, and I must say that this pattern walks you through it so nicely that it ended up being one of the easiest things about it!

I sewed up a size 8 for my petite 9 year old. As you can see, she feels rather tough in it.

All the seams are finished beautifully, inside and out.

The directions are all written very clearly, and the illustrations are fantastic.

I really love the flexibility of this pattern. The fabric combinations are endless. It is great for everyday, but also think about the costume possibilities!
