Fall has officially arrived. Fall evokes so many wonderful feelings ... apple picking followed by delicious apple donuts & cider, the beautiful changing leaves, pumpkin farms & Halloween costumes, and cooler temps meaning jeans, sweaters and CARDIGANS! Who doesn't love a cardigan? They should be a wardrobe staple, especially during the change of seasons. They are easy to layer and easy to style.
One of my favorite cardigan patterns is the Julia Cardigan designed by the fabulous Hayley of Mouse House Creations. Available in sizes XS - 3XL and three different sleeve lengths, there is a combination to fit anyone's needs.
The Julia Cardigan is a quick sew with no buttons or zippers. There is even a no-hem doubled over finishing option. You will be adding comfort and style to your wardrobe in no time. The sleeve options include an extended-cap short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve and long sleeve. The 3/4 sleeve is pictured here.
The recommended fabrics for the Julia Cardigan are jersey knit, sweater knit, lycra, and interlock. I chose a printed sweater knit and black ponte de roma. Both of these fabrics are thicker knits with medium stretch. In my opinion, the pattern runs a tiny bit narrow in the shoulders, so you may want to consider sizing up or grading between sizes if your fabric does not have enough stretch.
The only alteration I made to the pattern was to increase the length of the sleeve cuff by an extra 2". I just prefer the look of a wider cuff.
I chose the no-hem doubled over version. I used the print for the outside hem band and the black for the inside hem band. I like how the black gives a bit of a tux lapel feel when flipped out.
The Julia Cardigan is a fantastic pattern that can be dressed up or down. Pick up the pattern today in the UpCraft Club Catalog and do your wardrobe a favor. Selfish sewing is the best!
