Looking for a pants/shorts pattern with plenty of opportunities for customization? Look no further. The Kudzu Cargo Pattern is the pattern for you. Kudzu Pants-5498 The Kudzu Cargo pattern is a fabulous pattern designed by our very own UpCraft Club creator Elizabeth (also creator of Charming Doodle and a member of the Willow & Co pattern collaborative). The pattern is a fun sew with tons of great options. The Kudzu Cargo Pattern has a wide size range of 2T - 10. As the pattern title implies, both pants and shorts options are included. Another awesome selling point is that the pattern is unisex! The pattern is professional graded and drafted. The pdf tiles together flawlessly. The instructions are clearly written and easy to follow. I especially like how Elizabeth breaks apart each section of the construction. full_2045_94859_KudzuCargoPantsandShorts_5 The pattern will fit a wide variety of body types with its knit waist/woven leg combo. There are also two leg widths from which to chose: straight and skinny. The recommended fabric is woven with stretch. We chose a 98/2 Cotton/Spandex blend from JoAnn Fabrics and it performed great with the pattern. Kudzu Pants-5454 A little background on my daughter. She hates wearing pants. If she was allowed to wear a dress everyday, she would. Unfortunately, that just isn't practical for P.E. days and winters in the Chicago area. I think the main reason she dislikes pants is because store-bought pants never fit her correctly. Her body measurements fall in many different sizes on a standard measurement chart. She is tall and thin for her age (6 years) and has extremely small hips yet is still carrying a round toddler belly. Pants with a fitted waist or adjustable waist tabs just fall down on her. She is constantly having to tug on the waist of her pants to keep them up. An elastic waist is really the only option for her body type; however, most elastic waist pants in the girls 6-14 department are sweatpants or athletic pants and my daughter would prefer something more fancy. She and I are both so thrilled with the Kudzu Cargo Pants because they give her the best of both worlds: an elastic waist and the ability to use more fashion forward fabrics. Kudzu Pants-5483 We were able to modify the Kudzu Cargos to fit her body perfectly. We chose the pants length, straight leg width and pieced front leg. We decided to leave the cargo pocket off at my daughter's request. We did keep the fun knee-pleat details and the easy faux fly. Kudzu Pants-5423 All of the style lines in the pattern allow for fun color blocking opportunities. Mix and match as you please ;) Kudzu Pants-5420 The back pockets are designed to be quite large. As the pattern states, if you prefer smaller pockets, you can cut the next size down. We did elect for the smaller pockets. Kudzu Pants-5417 I made an error when cutting out the front leg pieces. I cut the lower leg at the upper leg's fold line; therefore, I had to add a fabric strip to recover some of the lost length. I decided to make the most out of my mistake and use the error as a chance for colorblocking ... hence the diagonal black lines on the front. In the end, I think the black lines look cool, so it was a happy mistake. Kudzu Pants-5425 Other reviewers had mentioned that the pattern runs a bit slim, so I chose to cut one size above where my daughter measured on the chart. I ended up cutting the size 8, but she would have been fine in the size 7. I did have to make some alterations due to her measurements. I took about a 1/2" off the center-back waist, 1/2" off both the inner and outer legs and about 1" off the hips. Kudzu Pants-5428 We ended up with a pair of pants that fit well and she feels fabulous wearing. She looks like a million bucks. Her legs go for days ... 6 going on 16. Please stop growing up so fast!!! Kudzu Pants-5495 YAY!!!!!! Pants that fit!!!!!! Kudzu Pants-5485 The Kudzu Cargos are a fabulous pants/shorts pattern. The many options will guide you to making the perfect pair. We would love to see what you do with the Kudzu Cargo Pants/Shorts Pattern.
