Sewing Pattern Review: Dyyni Skirt

Written by Amy from Friends Stitched Together.

My youngest niece is still all about all things Frozen! Her birthday party last month was Frozen themed so I whipped up a quick outfit for her (as well as her cake, which turned out pretty cool, if I do say so myself!) using the latest pattern from Pienkel, the DYYNI Skirt.

I used this fun satin from JoAnn's and a coordinating pink satin for the underskirt. I love all the options in the pattern - one or two layers, optional pockets and ruching, and two different waistbands! The size range is awesome and the pattern prints in layers, which is another plus.

The pockets are her favorite part. The skirt has six gores, which gives it that twirl factor that every girl loves - she could barely hold still long enough for pictures!

The instructions show you how to hem the skirt so the bias tape is hidden on the inside which gives it a nice clean finish. I was having fun playing with the different colors and decided to sandwich the hem in the tape to make it visible. I like the contrast it gives, especially to the solid pink underskirt. The bias tape also gives the skirt a bit of weight and helps prevent wardrobe malfunctions!

Her favorite part may be the pockets, but mine is definitely the ruching! Once again, this is supposed to be hidden on the inside, but I was going for the contrast and love how it turned out!

She was a pretty happy birthday girl!
