This week, meet Yvonne Fuchs of Quilting Jetgirl! Yvonne describes herself as "an intuitive introvert who is passionate about hometown and online quilting community", and believes that quilts can cover the world with care and love. And did you know that she used to be an aerospace engineer? How did she became a quilter and pattern designer? Keep reading to know more!
Why do you sew?
I sew as a way to fulfill my need to be creative, and I believe that quilts can cover the world with care and love.
When did you started to sew? And what was your first make?
I started sewing in high school (over 20 years ago) when my paternal grandmother offered to hand quilt a twin size quilt for me to take to college... if I pieced the quilt top. I am so glad I accepted her challenge!
When did you start to draft patterns? How was the learning process?
started writing quilt patterns in 2015 when I received a lot of interest in a quilt that I had made for a customer. I began by drafting free online block tutorials to gain confidence and then worked into creating full quilt patterns.
What sewing machine do you own? Is it the machine of your dreams?
I own a Juki TL-2200QVP Mini and a 2004 APQS Millennium longarm with a 10 foot frame. I recently purchased the Juki, and I am very thrilled with it!
What is on in the background while you're sewing?
I listen to a lot of music; anything from old favorite albums (Coldplay, Linkin Park, or Dixie Chicks) to newer electronic playlists through YouTube.
Describe yourself in 3 words:
3 things that make you happy:
- Walks with my husband,
- warm summer evenings,
- and rainbows.
3 random things about you:
- I love guacamole,
- I grow my hair out to cut and donate about every 3 years,
- and I have a cat named Puppy.
Life or sewing motto:
My Quilting Jetgirl tagline is "Sewing at the Speed of Sound". We all sew at the speed of sound; sometimes it will sound faster than others.
Thank you, Yvonne!
